1973 Ford Maverick with 35,200 original, one owner miles. 92 year old grandpa drove this and maintained it religiously. Tony Orlando and Dawn were singing the year’s number one hit “Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree.” Your grandma’s kitchen had appliances with the same paint color as this car and it now looks surprisingly current with it’s strange green tint and striped accented upholstery that is in absolutely PERFECT shape! This was kept in Grandpa’s garage and NOT driven in winter. If I had the room I would keep this car or give it to a relative just so I could drive it occasionally. Here are it’s particulars:
200 straight six ford with 3 speed automatic transmission.
Power steering (which REALLY helps on this car!)
Philco AM radio works perfectly and it’s SOLID STATE so it’s instant on
Heat/defrost/vents/fan as new
Condition as follows:
Paint is original-bubble and rust free! It has a couple light blemishes that are consistent with a 35,000 mile car.
Trim/rubber/windlace/all LIKE new. No dry cracking or wear anywhere except a tiny crack in the front bumper trim rubber (photo)
Undercarriage still has most of the original coating. It was clearly never driven in Wisconsin winters! Very slight surface rust on leaf springs and other underbelly
areas that could easily be removed with a light wire brushing.
Work just completed to bring up to date after long storage (with records)
Complete carb rebuild/gaskets/seats etc.
flush out of gas tank
brakes all checked out/resurfaced drums
all fluids changed
transmission/coolant/brake fluid all fresh
new vacuum lines/kick down cable
new manifold/manifold gasket/egr valve assembly
valve cover gasket changed
new voltage regulator
Interior is stunning. Headliner/doors/seat upholstery excellent. Original one piece accessory floormats intact and in great condition/front and rear. Tires are dated but in excellent non-cracked condition.
The only flaws in this car are very minor pitting on rear bumper assembly and locking gas cap. Not noticeable to most. Original owner replaced BOTH rear quarters in 2000 and it’s only noticeable from inside the trunk where he used some foam to further waterproof the seams inside.
Cannot tell be the paint color that he even did it. He used NOS panels. He cut his own piece of period accurate shag carpet to line the trunk floor. Spare and jack look to be original. Still has the jack instructions and the license plate instructions as new.
The only thing I did NOT do (because I forgot when I cleaned tank!) was to change the fuel sending device which is intermittent. I will include a brand new one with the purchase. . The engine is super smooth and quiet and on my first trip I got over 20 miles to the gallon at 65 mph.
I have the original owner’s manual and dealer packet along with Ford’s original “certicard”. The buyer of this car will NOT be disappointed! It is priced appropriately and has a very reasonable reserve. A great first classic for anyone or a great driver for a younger driver.
Utility, comfort, and 70’s style. Tony Orlando and Dawn would be right at
home in this Maverick. It’s a lovely car. I am going to list this car locally as well and reserve the right to cancel if I sell before it ends.
Please do not contract me from an out of town area code; I don’t negotiate over the phone, take PayPal, or deal with grifters, scam artists and con men who seem to see craig’s list as their favorite playground!
